Simba SC surged back to claim three points with a 2-1 victory over JKT Tanzania on Saturday as the Mainland Premier League (Ligi Kuu Bara) returned following a period of political unrest in Tanzania.
Jonathan Sowah’s 77th minute goal ensured that supporters of the Reds left satisfied after the title contenders fell behind around the hour mark. Edward Songo’s strike put hosts JKT ahead to finish off a movement down the right wing.
But Simba SC defender Wilson Nangu equalized soon after with a well placed header following a short corner kick and the favorites gained the momentum they needed to push for victory.
When the hosts slipped up, star striker Jonathan Sowah was there to pounce. Incompetent defending allowed a pass to slip through to the Ghanaian, who fired in a low finish to complete the comeback. Simba move back to the top of the table with a perfect record of three wins from three matches.
Earlier on Saturday, Singida Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Pamba Jiji. Clatous Chama’s first half opener for Singida was cancelled out by a goal for hosts Pamba early in the second half to spoil Singida’s perfect start to the league campaign.
Fixtures continue on Sunday with defending champions Young Africans as well as Azam FC in action. Yanga will host Kinondoni Municipal Council while Azam travel to face Namungo.
