Kenyan Premier League outfit AFC Leopards 14 game unbeaten run in the FKF Premier League came to an end following a 2-0 defeat against Mara Sugar at the Awendo Green Stadium on Saturday.
The defeat further ended AFC Leopards’ three game winning run. Since drawing 0-0 against Bandari FC, AFC under coach Fred Ambani were in a run of three straight wins.
Ingwe had defeated KCB 2-1, Shabana FC 2-1 away, and Mathare United 2-0. Against Mara Sugar, Ingwe started strongly but they were not able to prevent two late goals courtesy of Dennis Cheruiyot.
Cheruiyot stole the limelight after he broke the deadlock in 87th minute with a bullet header before he added the second in stoppages to further deny AFC Leopards a chance to move top of the 18-team league table.
The victory earned Mara Sugar their second of the campaign from seven matches. For AFC Leopards, they remained fourth with 12 points from seven matches. They have managed three wins, three draws and one defeat.
In another fixture on Saturday, Nairobi United came from behind to hammer Karibangi Sharks 4-2 at the Dandora Stadium. Sharks took the lead courtesy of Frankline Amollo Jr., who finished off a cross from Steve Mbulere.
However, United responded when Nigerian striker Michael Karamor latched onto a loose ball inside the box to level the scores.
In the 36th minute, Lesley Owino made it 2-1 for United, before Enock Machaka scored from long range to make it 3-1. Karamor added the fourth for United before Humphrey Aroko pulled a goal back for Sharks in the 68th minute.
The outcome saw United jump to third on the log with 12 points, two fewer than leaders Kakamega Homeboyz. United have played six matches, won four, drawn none and lost two.
