Group B is off and running at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League (CAFWCL) and Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas upstaged defending champions TP Mazembe with a 1-0 victory on Sunday in Ismaila, Egypt.
Habibou Ouedraogo controlled a pass from Yapo Aboa and finished for the only goal of the match in the 66th minute, giving Congolese powerhouse Mazembe plenty of work to do in a potentialy difficult group. ASEC established themselves as potential candidates to win the competition, looking more dangerous throughout the match with an assured performance.
Utilizing an almost entirely Ivorian selection of players, the Abidjan club overcame the Pan-African squad of TPM and will look to build upon their strong start to try and win Group B.
In the later match on Sunday, Botswana’s Gaborone United played to a scoreless draw with Tanzanian side JKT Queens.
Action from the group stage will resume on Tuesday with the second set of fixtures from Group A. Malian club USFAS Bamako currently lead after defeating Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto while group favorites AS FAR Rabat of Morocco and Egypt’s FC Masar will look for their first victories after playing to a draw.
