Dorgeles Nene scores a brace to open Fenerbahce account

Former Red Bull Salzburg star Dorgeles Nene lifted Fenerbahce to victory on Sunday in the Turkish Super Lig with two goals in a 4-2 victory over Kayserispor.

Sunday’s brace marked the Mali national team forward’s first goals with the Istanbul giants since joining the club for an €18 million price tag in mid-August. With Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri continuing to misfire in recent times, Nene was given a chance in the starting eleven and coach Domenico Tedesco’s decision paid instant dividends.

Only two minutes after Marco Asensio opened the scoring for the hosts in the 38th minute, the Malian doubled Fener’s advantage with a routine finish from a cross by former Manchester United midfielder Fred.

Then early into the second half, it was 3-0 in favor of the hosts after Nene arrived to finish off a pass from Kerem Akturkoglu. Akturkoglu finished off the victory with another assist from Fred in the 63rd minute after Kayserispor pulled a goal back.

Fener are now one point back of defending champions, rivals and current leaders Galatasaray. Victor Osimhen had a potential late equalizer ruled out by VAR as the champions fell to a shock 0-1 defeat at Kocaelispor.
