Asante Kotoko midfielder Seth Kwadwo has indicated that the club has gained much experience from its participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, despite a poor campaign.
Kotoko lifted the Ghana FA Cup last season, a feat that qualified them for CAF’s second-tier competition; however, they failed to go past the second preliminary stage after succumbing to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.
After eliminating Nigeria’s Kwara United via a 5-3 aggregate score line, the two-time African champions lost 1-0 to WAC in Accra before suffering a 5-1 defeat in the reverse encounter in Casablanca to cap a 6-1 aggregate loss.
The 25-time Ghana champions quickly recovered from their continental blip to hammer Karela United 4-2 in a week 8 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium before silencing sworn rivals Hearts of Oak the following week in Accra.
Seth Kwadwo, who scored his debut goal for the club in their week 8 win, believes the Africa campaign has given the club the needed experience to soldier on in the domestic top flight.
“We lost to WAC, and coming to the league, we needed to psyche ourselves and motivate ourselves to come up again, and so that has been the conversation between us.
“You could see [that] we have gained a lot of experience going to Africa and coming back to play the league, our level will be on top,” Seth Kwadwo said.
“We have to maintain that level to deliver each time we play against any opponent in the league.”
The victory over Hearts of Oak ensured Kotoko ended their rivals’ unbeaten run, and they are yet to taste defeat in six games, with three outstanding games to clear. They have 14 points and are seated seventh on the league table.
