Friendly: Senegal dominated; Tanzania edged by Kuwait

Friendly matches continued over the weekend with Saturday featuring several African nations in action, including a blockbuster clash between Senegal and Brazil while Tanzania took on Kuwait in Egypt.

It did not go well for Senegal, who faced a Brazil side seeking vengeance for a shock friendly defeat to the Lions of Teranga over two years earlier. The 6-time world champions were well in control on Saturday for a 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium in London.

A strong start for the star-studded Brazil team put them in front after Senegal escaped a couple of close calls. Chelsea forward Estêvão opened the scoring in the 28th minute and Manchester United midfielder Casemiro doubled the advantage before halftime.

The Lions of Teranga performed better in the second half but failed to provide much danger for Brazil goalkeeper Ederson despite a couple of shaky moments from the Fenerbahce shot stopper.

In Egypt, the Tanzania national team got off to a strong start but four unanswered goals from Kuwait gave them a 4-3 victory over the Taifa Stars.

Charles M’Mombwa impressed with the Malta-based midfielder providing two goals and an assist for the Taifa Stars. However, after taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, Kuwait stormed back with an inspired start to the second half by scoring four goals in 23 minutes before M’Mombwa pulled a late goal back for the East Africans.

Elsewhere, Guinea defeated Liberia in a 2-0 victory on Saturday played in Morocco. Sékou Bangoura opened the scoring for the Syli National before the hour mark and Yadaly Diaby doubled the lead with an impressive strike.

In Southern Africa, South Africa eased to a 3-1 victory over Zambia while Lesotho and Malawi played to a scoreless draw.

Finally, Libya defeated Mauritania 1-0 courtesy of a Mahmoud Al Shawli header from a free kick in the first half.
