Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda dominate in U-17 AFCON Qualifiers

The 2026 African U-17 Nations Cup CECAFA Zone Qualifier matchday two saw Tanzania and Uganda running riot. Hosts Ethiopia were also dominant in their encounter against South Sudan.

In Group A, Ethiopia defeated South Sudan 4-1. The hosts were the better side; a hat-trick from Dawit Kassaw and a second-half strike from Enyew Seleshi helped the Red Foxes maintain their perfect run. Juo Panom scored the consolation for South Sudan from the spot in the 78th minute. Elsewhere, Somalia came from behind to force a one-all draw against Kenya. Anas Mohamed canceled Rayse Ochieng’s first-half goal as both nations settled for a draw.

Ethiopia tops the group with six points, while Somalia are second with a single point.

In Dire Dawa, tournament favorites Uganda and Tanzania spent the day raining goals against Sudan and Djibouti. Uganda hammered Sudan 9-0, while Tanzania put 11 past Djibouti.

Luqman Mbalasalu was the star of the show as Tanzania thrashed Djibouti 11-0. Mbalasalu hit a super hat-trick as he scored six goals. Sadam Hamis, Issa Chole, and Nhingo Luzelenga also put their names on the scoresheet.

Holders Uganda were superior against Sudan in the other fixture. Owen Mukisa, Tomas Ogema, Eze Kombi, Brian Olwa, Enock Mwesigwa, Fahad Ismail, Abdulshakur Babi, and Arnold Kayemba were the nine different scorers.

Tanzania tops Group B with six points, level with Uganda.
