CAFCL: Al Ahly dominate JS Kabylie

Egyptian giants Al Ahly began Group B play from the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) with a dominant 4-1 victory over Algeria’s JS Kabylie on Saturday at the Cairo International Stadium.

Star winger Trezeguet scored twice and forward Mohamed Sherif added another goal for the hosts, who were well in control to join Young Africans at the top of the group after one matchday.

JSK did well to hold out in the early stages of the match but the Egyptian champions increased the pressure as the first half wore on. Ahly made their breakthrough in the 36th minute when a corner kick service from Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” found Trezeguet for an excellent header past Mohamed Hadid in the JSK goal.

Less than three minutes later, Ahly seized full control of the match when Sherif provided the finish from a cross by Achraf Bencharki to make it 2-0 before halftime.

JSK managed to pull a goal back courtesy of a defensive mistake by the hosts. Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy failed to deal with a cross by Lahlou Akhrib and the ball ricocheted into the goal off his foot.

But any hopes of a comeback for the Algerian club were soon ended. Trezeguet added one more goal with a shot from distance in the 84th minute to confirm three points for the hosts. In the final moments of second half stoppage time, substitute Emam Ashour added one more goal in his first appearance for Al Ahly in over two months.

Al Ahly will clash with AS FAR Rabat in Morocco next weekend while JSK host Young Africans in the second matchday from Group B.
