The first half ended goalless, however, the hosts burst into life after the break. Ahmed Atef “Kotta” opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with a close finish to give Pyramids a 1–0 lead. Just five minutes later, Kotta doubled the advantage with a header that left the Rivers United goalkeeper unable to save.
The Pyramids forward completed a memorable hat-trick in the 72nd minute, slotting home from inside the penalty area to seal the victory and cap a superb individual performance.
Pyramids closed out the match to secure all three points and begin their Group A journey on a perfect note.
The 3–0 win puts Pyramids at the top of the group table alongside Morocco’s RS Berkane, who also claimed an opening-round victory, defeating Power Dynamos by the same scoreline.
