Gor Mahia move four points clear after upsetting Tusker FC

Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia remained on course to reclaim their FKF Premier League following a deserved 1-0 defeat against Tusker FC at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.

The record Kenyan champions went into the fixture after defeating champions Kenya Police FC 1-0 in the previous match. The Police win came after they had drawn 1-1 against Ulinzi Stars.

It was Gor Mahia, who started the match strongly and they should have taken the lead when Bryson Wangai, who came in to replace Ghanaian Ebenezer Adukwaw, rattled the woodwork following a superb cross from Austin Odhiambo.

However, in the seventh minute, Gor Mahia’s pressure paid off after the Brewers conceded an own goal. A back pass from Tom Teka, which was intended for his keeper Brian Opondo, found its way into the back of the net after the keeper failed to hold onto it.

Gor Mahia should have doubled the scoreline in the 16th minute but Felix Oluoch missed a great sitter despite being in a good position. Thomas Omole almost equalised for Tusker after being released from a counter attacking move but his effort was stopped by goalkeeper Bryne Omondi.

Police FC bounce back to beat Mathare United

The victory saw Gor Mahia move four points clear at the summit of the 18-team league with 19 points from eight matches. They have registered six wins, one draw and lost one match.

Kakamega Homeboyz remained second with 15 points. Meanwhile, the defeat which was the third of the campaign for struggling Tusker, left them in eighth position with 12 points from 10 matches.

Elsewhere, champions Police FC bounced back from the Gor Mahia defeat to edge out Mathare United 1-0 in another fixture played on Saturday at Police Sacco grounds.

After a good start into the game, the law enforcers finally broke the deadlock when defender Aboud Omar hit the back of the net. Police are now third on the log with 14 points accumulated from four wins, two draws and one defeat.

In another match at Awendo Green Stadium, KCB ended their five game winless run to beat Mara Sugar 1-0. December Kisaka scored the only goal to hand the Bankers their third win of the season under coach Robert Matano.
