The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the requests of Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Merrikh to participate in the Rwandan Premier League.
Sporting activities in Sudan have been suspended for several months due to the ongoing war and security instability, forcing clubs to seek alternative competitions abroad.
Last season (2024–2025), both Al Hilal and Al Merrikh temporarily competed in the Mauritanian league.
In an official statement, the Rwanda Football Federation announced:
“The CAF Executive Committee has approved, during its meeting, the inclusion of Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Merrikh Sudanese clubs in the Rwandan Premier League for the 2025/2026 season.”
Al Hilal are currently taking part in the CAF Champions League, placed in Group C alongside Mamelodi Sundowns, MC Alger, and Saint-Éloi Lupopo. They beat Rhulani Mokwena’s MC Alger 2-1 in the opening group stage round.
