Pyramids FC returned to domestic play with a 2-0 victory over Arab Contractors in Egypt’s top flight Nile League on Tuesday.
Goals from Ibrahim Blati Touré and Mohamed Hamdi confirmed three points for the reigning African club champions, who turned in a performance that was all business in the midst of a busy period.
With a CAF Champions League victory over Nigeria’s Rivers United three days earlier and another fixture in the same competition coming in four days, the big spending club needed a good start on Tuesday and got what they wished for. Burkina Faso international Touré arrived to fire in the 9th minute opener after a series of rapid deflections in the Arab Contractors penalty area.
The hosts continued to dominate possession and Arab Contractors failed to produce a shot on target throughout the ninety minutes. Pyramids FC and Egypt national team left back Hamdi put to rest any hopes of a comeback for the visitors when he converted from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute.
Pyramids FC are now six points back of current Nile League leaders Ceramica Cleopatra, with three less matches played. If the CAF Champions League winners can win their games in hand, they can take a significant lead on main title rivals Al Ahly and Zamalek.
