Betway Premiership: Chippa United won’t go down – Vilakazi

South Africa’s Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has vowed that his team will not get relegated from the top-flight league, despite a string of unfavourable results.

The Chilies Boys suffered yet another loss on Tuesday, going down 2-0 to Orlando Pirates in a Betway Premiership match. Strikers Evidence Makgopa and Oswin Appollis’ goals earned the Buccaneers the victory to go joint-top of the table.

Despite the defeat, Vilakazi said he was encouraged by his team’s fighting spirit and work-rate.

“Obviously, we are disappointed with the result,” the coach told SuperSport Television.

“We wanted to fight so that we can be victorious on the day, but it was not to be. I am happy with the effort and spirit. If we keep on fighting and working like that, we will not go down. I can only take the positives from this game.”

Why Chippa United lost to Pirates

He attributed the goals conceded to the fact that Chippa United lost concentration at crucial phases of the game and also failed to use the few chances they created.

“We slept in the crucial phases of the games, but with the with effort from players and commitment, I am very happy. We had a better first half. We expected that Pirates would come at us so we defended in a low block so that we can frustrate them. Unfortunately, you can’t defend for the whole 90 minutes…,” Vilakazi added.

The next game for Chippa will be against Siwele FC this weekend.
