Simba SC will head into their matchday two of the CAF Champions League minus goalkeeper Moussa Camara and defender Abdulrazack Hamza, who missed the opening Group D clash against Petro de Luanda on Sunday.
The Tanzanian outfit kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 home defeat against the Angolan side at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. Despite dominating the game, Simba’s resistance was finally broken in the 78th minute when a low drive from Bernardo Dias, deflected off Rushine De Reuck, and beat goalkeeper Yakoub Seleman.
Simba have now embarked on their journey to face Malian Première Division outfit Stade Malien on Sunday. Stade Malien kicked off their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
According to Simba Media Officer Ahmed Ally, confirmed Simba will depart for Mali on Thursday ahead of the clash.
“We are departing on Thursday for the Sunday game because we will go through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and then straight to Bamako, Mali,” Ally told Pan-Africa Football.
“The trip will take approximately nine hours, and we will depart with a squad of 22 players, including the technical bench and other club officials.”
Asked to explain why 22 players, Ally responded: “We have left behind seven players, and out of the seven we have the two (Hamza, and Camara), who missed the opening match owing to injuries, and they are still not ready to play. The other five will remain because of the coach’s request.
“Most of the time when we travel for CAF assignments, we use a squad of 22 players, but the rest will stay behind as per the instructions from the coach.”
Also missing in the squad is Kenyan midfielder Mohammed Bajaber.
