Zamalek file official complaint to CAF over refereeing decisions in Kaizer Chiefs match

Zamalek has decided to submit an official complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the Rwandan refereeing team led by Samuel Uwikunda, following the controversial decisions witnessed during their match against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

According to the club, the officiating errors in the match against Kaizer Chiefs influenced the final result. Zamalek insist they were denied a penalty for Angolan forward Chico Banza, while a legitimate goal by Tunisian striker Seifeddine Jaziri was ruled out without any understandable justification for those watching the game. The club also criticized the referee for excessively issuing yellow cards to Zamalek players.

In its statement, Zamalek is calling on CAF to intervene and appoint more suitable referees in order to reduce the recurring officiating errors that affect match outcomes across the competition. The club also urges CAF to introduce VAR technology starting from the third round of the group stage, stressing that the absence of video assistance undermines the integrity of the tournament. Zamalek emphasized that it is time to take steps to improve refereeing in African competitions, including the CAF Confederation Cup.
