Durban City FC coach Gavin Hunt says his team should have defeated fellow South Africa’s Betway Premiership opponents Orlando Pirates on Saturday, but the level of quality was the decisive factor.

The rookies welcomed the Buccaneers at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban hoping for a positive result.

However, their lack of a killer punch upfront came back to haunt them. The proceedings turned from bad to worse for Durban City as they finished the game with 10 men after Siphamandla Ncanana was shown a red card for a foul.

In a post-match interview with SuperSport Television, Hunt said his team should have wrapped up the proceedings in the first-half when they created decent scoring chances, but spurned them.

“I am disappointed with the result. I thought the game could have been better than that. We could have wrapped up the game in the first half, but that is the difference in the level of the quality. That is the bottom line. It is frustrating because we should have won that game,” he said.

Durban City will seek to return to winning ways when they face Orbit College FC at Olympia Park in Rustenburg on Wednesday.

Who made the difference for Orlando Pirates?

Bafana Bafana striker Evidence Makgopa and midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi scored in either half for Pirates to go three points clear ahead of defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Both teams have played 12 games each.

Pirates have won 10 out 13 league games and are undefeated in 11 matches making them strong contenders for the league title which Sundowns have dominated in the past eight seasons.

The Buccaneers have now switched attention to Saturday’s Carling Knockout Cup final meeting with Marumo Gallants FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
