France born defender, Benedicte Simon has opened up on her first call up to Ghana’s senior female team for the international friendly against England.
The 28-year-old versatile player earned her debut invite ahead of the game against the Lionesses at the St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton on Tuesday, December 2. Simon, who previously played for French outfit Reims, first expressed joy over her maiden call up.
“I’m very glad and I’m very happy and for me Ghana means a lot of things because it’s my motherland so I’m happy to be here,” Benedicte Simon told Ghana FA.
“It was like a dream because it’s been a long time that I wanted to come here and when I saw my name I called my mother and said I’m in te list so I was so happy.
The former Paris St-Germain and Atletico Madrid player hailed her new teammates for helping her settle to life in the Black Queens camp.
“My teammates are so nice and they were happy for me for my first call up so I was so happy and I’m surprised at the level. You know there are good players and it was good.”
Simon has had stints with the women sides of Juventus, Levante Las Planas, Sassuolo and Valencia. She currently plays for Swiss club Servette.
The Black Queens began their preparations for the England friendly with 3-1 victory over Aston Villa Women’s side on Thursday behind closed doors.
