Vilakazi cites Chippa United’s missing puzzle after frustrating Chiefs

Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has cited one final missing puzzle he is trying to solve for them to return to winning ways in South Africa’s top-flight league.

The former AmaZulu FC man commented on Chippa United’s performance after playing out to a goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs in a Betway Premiership match on Wednesday.

Vilakazi said he was impressed by Chippa United’s defensive structure, an improvement from the recent past when they used to leak in many goals.

“The fighting spirit and commitment from the players was of the highest order. That is what we need. We need to grind and we need to fight until the end,” the coach told SuperSport Television.

The coach then added that his next assignment is to find a way of ensuring that Chippa United’s front line delivers the final product by scoring.

“Obviously, we are still looking for that ball at the back of the net, but we are still struggling. We will make sure we polish, especially our final third where we need to convert goals,” Vilakazi explained.

The Chippa United manager has since welcomed the Africa Cup of Nations break from December 25 to January 18 2026 describing it as an opportunity to right the wrongs. Bafana Bafana will participate in the continental football showpiece with a squad dominated by PSL players.

“We will have time to align a few areas of the game to polish up the final third. We had to work on our defensive structure as we were conceding a lot of goals. We will keep on working very hard, and with this attitude, we will definitely make it,” he said.

It was the second goalless draw for Chippa United who are now winless in 10 straight league games. Vilakazi’s men remain bottom of the 16-member table with nine points from 15 games.
