Steve Mounie scores four for Alanyaspor in cup thrashing

Steve Mounie took advantage of weaker opposition to score his first goals in Turkish football on Thursday, recording four goals in Alanyaspor’s 5-0 Turkish Cup victory over second tier side Corum.

It has been a difficult period for the Benin national team superstar in his club career. After an unsuccessful move to Bundesliga club FC Augsburg that saw him mostly relegated to the bench last season, Thursday’s four goals comes at a timely moment as Mounie attempts to establish himself after moving to Alanyaspor on loan.

There was little doubt about the result early on against Corum, a bit of a surprise considering the hosts are currently in 6th position in the Turkish second tier 1.Lig. Young Nigerian talent Uchenna Ogundu opened the scoring inside three minutes for his third goal of the season before Mounie took center stage.

A calm left footed finish doubled the lead just before the ten minute mark before the former Brest star produced an accurate header to make it 3-0 in the 33rd minute. Another towering header five minutes later completed a first half hat-trick.

The veteran goal scorer added one more goal in the 85th minute. Injuries and international duty with Benin have made it difficult for Mounie to establish regular playing time at his new club but a productive outing in the cup could open up more opportunities after only getting one previous opportunity from the start a couple of months ago.

Mounie now has four goals in six appearances this season. His current club is sitting in 10th place on the top flight Super Lig table.
