Congolese side TP Mazembe have launched an investigation to establish the truth behind the horrific injury of their star Patient Mwamba in Lubumbashi on Tuesday.
The midfielder is said to have reported to the Ravens’ management that he got involved in a car accident. However, other reports suggest that he broke his leg while playing social football in his location. Professional footballers are discouraged from playing social football due to the risks involved.

TP Mazembe have since taken responsibility for the injury of the 23-year-old rising star who is a reliable member of Lamine Ndiaye’s squad. He now faces a length spell on the sidelines.
“Midfielder Patient Mwamba was involved in a serious traffic accident on the night of Tuesday, December 3rd, according to initial reports,” the club’s statement reads.
“However, several sources indicate that the injury occurred during a recreational match played in his neighborhood. The club immediately launched an internal investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this incident, which occurred outside of professional activities.”
The Ravens have since indicated that Mwamba might be out of action for many months due to the serious nature of the injury.
“The precise circumstances of the accident, which took place off the club’s sports facilities, will be clarified after the club’s investigation. Following prompt medical attention and transport to the hospital, initial examinations revealed a double fracture of the tibia and fibula, a serious diagnosis requiring urgent surgery,” the statement adds.
“The club’s medical staff immediately mobilized to ensure his transfer to a specialized center for further examinations and to provide the appropriate care. TP Mazembe expresses its full solidarity and support to Patient Mwamba during this difficult time. The club will support the player at every stage of his medical care and recovery.”
Mwamba featured for Mazembe when they beat Tanganyika 2-0 on Monday and eventually made way for first goal scorer Patrick Mwaungulu in the 46th minute. He was on target for Mazembe on October 23 2025 when Mazembe faced CS Makina. The left-footed player joined Ndiaye’s team in 2021.
