Ivorian champions Stade d’Abidjan hire coach Bamba Mohamed

Ivory Coast’s Lonaci Ligue 1 champions Stade d’Abidjan have announced the appointment of Bamba Mohamed as the new coach.

The Yéyés confirmed the arrival of the Franco-Ivorian coach on Thursday, as the club steps up its title defence after a slow start to the campaign.

“The Stade d’Abidjan is pleased to announce the appointment of M. Bamba Mohamed as new head coach. Recognized for his seriousness and rigour, he will have a mission to continue the sporting development of our team and raise the colours of the Yéyés. The club wishes him every success in his new duties,” the club’s statement reads.

Bamba Mohamed has taken over the mantle while the team lies in fourth place with 20 points from 12 games, five points behind leaders ASEC Mimosa.

The new handler was last in charge of Bouaké FC but he left for family reasons.

With the Gbêkê stars, the Franco-Ivorian coach won six matches, drew four and posted five defeats in 15 games to finish seventh in the standings.

He will be managing Stade d’Abidjan who recently participated in the CAF Champions League preliminary round but fell short of making it to the group stage after losing to Petro de Luanda of Angola.

The new coach is tasked with improving the performance of Stade d’Abidjan who have won six games, drawn twice and lost five matches this far. D’Abidjan recorded their latest 3-0 victory over Stella Club of Adjamé on Wednesday.

The Ivorian champions lifted the league title in July under the headship of Frenchman Alexandre Lafitte. The Frenchman left the club to seek greener pastures at Marumo Gallants in South Africa’s Betway Premiership.

The 28-year-old coach first took charge in 2023 and helped Stade Abidjan avoid relegation in his first season. He went on to win the league in 2025, ending a five-decade title drought.
