NPFL: Fidelis Ilechukwu pushes back on Rangers’ exit rumours

Fidelis Ilechukwu, the Technical Adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Enugu Rangers, has debunked rumours of his soon exit from the Flying Antelopes.

Ilechukwu is currently combining his role with the Nigeria national team, as the former Plateau United gaffer is one of the assistants to Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle.

Recently reports coming out of the Flying Antelopes camp, is that there is a rift between Ilechukwu and his assistants, with the gaffer rumoured to be considering his future at the club.

While speaking during a press conference in Enugu on Friday, the technical adviser assured that he remains committed to honour his contract with Rangers as he hasn’t been sacked.

“All those things are not true, it’s not possible, I have a contract with Rangers. In all the clubs I’ve worked, I finished my contract and I’ve never been sacked anywhere.”

He went further to state that his assistants are his family and the rumors are from people misinterpreting what is not there.

“My assistants are like family. We eat together, work together, and support each other. People outside may misinterpret things, but inside we are united. In my absence, my assistant can lead the team and win matches. That is what good leadership means, training people to take over when you’re not there.”

Enugu Rangers are currently preparing to host fellow NPFL side Bayelsa United in a Matchday 16 encounter on Sunday.
