Nile League: Pyramids FC drop points at Petrojet

Reigning African club champions Pyramids FC settled for a 2-2 draw at Petrojet on Saturday in Egypt’s top flight Nile League.

Adham Hamed’s second half penalty kick gave hosts Petrojet a valuable point against the deep pocketed club, the first time Pyramids have dropped points in domestic league play since late August.

The visitors struggled to put their less pedigreed opponents away, and were forced into a scrappy duel that ended on a frustrating note. Mostafa Ziko scored twice for the CAF Champions League holders, opening the scoring in the 39th minute on an assist from attacking right back Mohamed Chibi.

Ziko doubled his tally early in the second half, but only after Mohamed Ibrahim equalized for Petrojet less than two minutes after Ziko’s opener. Hamed converted from the penalty spot to postpone the favorites’ ascension to first place on the Nile League table.

The big spending Cairo club are two points back of leaders Ceramica Cleopatra with one match to make up on the leaders. The remainder of the month will see a break for the top flight with Egypt’s clubs set to take part in the League Cup, an opportunity for star players to rest while other players get an opportunity.

The League Cup begins on December 9.
