The Zimbabwe national team camp has suffered an injury setback after one of their senior players picked up a knock just two weeks before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Assistant team captain Marshall Munetsi could miss the tournament in the North African nation after he picked an injury while playing Wolves in the Premier League.
Ahead of Wolves versus Manchester United Premier League fixture on Monday, Wolves manager Rob Edwards issued worrying update on Marshall Munetsi with few weeks away before the 35th edition of the AFCON gets underway.
Munetsi was brought on as an 85th-minute substitute during the game against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, but the Zimbabwean left the field not long after due to injury.
The midfielder was Rob Edwards’ last change, and that meant the Old Gold had to play with ten men for the dying moments of the fixture.
Speaking ahead of the Man United game, Edwards was asked about Munetsi condition. He replied: “We don’t know the full details yet.”
In Morocco, Zimbabwe have been drawn in Group B alongside Angola, Egypt and South Africa. The Warriors will start off their campaign against the Pharaohs on December 22.
