Former Ghana international, John Paintsil has reacted positively to the West African nation’s 2026 FIFA World Cup draw.
Paintsil, who doubles as Ghana’s senior team assistant coach, remains confident that the world will see the best out of the Black Stars when the global football festival starts in June.
The 2010 World Cup quarter finalists are in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama and John Paintsil shared some words after the draw.
“[Group L is] a group that Ghanaians cannot underrate. Forget about the names. It’s a tournament that we are going to. I believe it’s a group that will bring the best out of the team,” John Paintsi said.
“Looking at our performance during the qualification, it was fantastic. And, looking at the players that we have, we have many players who are equally very good and can stand any task.
Ghana, who are set to make their fifth World Cup appearance, will open their campaign against Panama on Wednesday, 17 June at 23:00 GMT in Toronto.
They will take on England on Tuesday, 23 June at 20:00 GMT in Boston, before wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on Saturday, 27 June at 22:00 GMT in Philadelphia.
Ghana first qualified for the world cup in Germany 2006, reaching the round of 16 before going a step further into the quarter finals four years later in South Africa. The 2014 edition in Brazil was a bad day at the office following a group stage exit with a similar fate in 2022 in Qatar after missing the 2018 version in Russia.
