Leadership questions persist as Ethiopian Coffee postpones General Assembly

Ethiopian Premier League side Ethiopian Coffee has postponed its general assembly after only a few members were present.

The general assembly was to be the first in a long time, with the current board chairman, Lieutenant Fekade Mamo, facing questions over his leadership due to a lack of success at the Browns.

The Addis Ababa side recently accepted the resignation of their general manager, Gezaghen Wolde, and their slow start to the new season has sparked protests from fans.

The general assembly was expected to address some of these issues, but with members of the Coffee Exporters Association failing to show up, the club has opted to postpone it. The Exporters Association holds significant power over the club, and due to a tight schedule, the key members could not attend the assembly.

Some Ethiopian Coffee supporters are calling for genuine structural changes at the club. The long leadership of Mamo has been backed by the Exporters Association, but supporters want the situation to change.

An insider source who wishes to remain anonymous told Pan-Africa Football that Mamo, who is also the chairman of the Ethiopian Premier League Share Company, could leave his post in 2026.

With only one league title since 2010, Ethiopian Coffee fans are hoping for better days ahead. The general assembly will take place in 2026, with general manager Wolde set to remain in his position until then.
