Thierry Henry slams Salah for going public with Liverpool issues

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry criticized Mohamed Salah for expressing his issues with club Liverpool and manager Arne Slot in a post-match interview.

​​After Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against relegation-battling Leeds on Saturday ,in which the 33-year-old was an unused substitute, Salah expressed his displeasure of lack of minutes.

Salah went on to say that he “feels like the club is throwing him under the bus” and treating him like he is the problem, as he no longer has a good relationship with the manager, stating that he will say goodbye to the fans at Anfield on Saturday, December 13th.

​Reacting to the Egyptian’s comments, Henry, on CBS Sports, said there was a better way to address the situation without going to the press, as he believes that Salah got it wrong.

“Nobody is talking about what Mo Salah has achieved in the game. We’re talking about a moment in time that I think he got wrong. You do not talk about your personal situation openly when your team is struggling. You do it in a dressing room. I’ve done it. I went to the dressing room and smashed everything in. I went to the office of the boss and complained about stuff.”

“When I was at Barcelona, I went away with the team, they put me in the stand. Did you hear me talking about it? No, there is a team. You need to protect your team at all costs, all the time.”

Furthermore, the Arsenal legend also stated that while there is freedom of speech, if a player isn’t performing at his best, his position is in danger as a coaches relationship with players is to perform.

“Now, freedom of speech, I can understand that you want to speak. I can understand the frustration. And when people talk about relationship, the only relationship a coach wants to have with a player is him to perform. If you’re not performing, then your position is in danger.It’s not a due to have a position, especially at a club like Liverpool.”

“It’s not about that. He is, after saying that, an outstanding player. But if you’re not performing, you put yourself in a situation when you leave the door open for someone to be in.”

After Salah’s interview, Liverpool dropped him from the squad that traveled to Italy for their 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory against Inter Milan on Tuesday.

​​Salah has scored five goals and provided three assists in all competitions for Liverpool this season.
