Malawi: Bullets title chase suffer blow again

Malawi giants FCB Nyasa Big Bullets lost for the second time in three TNM Super League games to undermine their title chase severely.

Two weeks ago, the record 17-time champions fell 2-0 to Creck Sporting Club on the road. On Wednesday, Bullets also suffered a loss by an identical scoreline to Moyale Barracks FC in the Northern Region.

Lameck Mithi scored both goals in the second half at Mzuzu Stadium to hand the visitors their sixth league defeat of the season.

Consequently, while Peter Mponda’s side still lead the 16-member TNM Super League, matters are no longer in their hands. The Blantyre giants now need favours from second-placed Mighty Wanderers, who also have 56 points but with a game in hand.

The Nomads can go three points clear if they win their game in hand while third-positioned holders Silver Strikers are three points behind them. Strikers edged Ekhaya FC 1-0 in Blantyre on Wednesday to maintain their fine form.

Why Silver Strikers stand title chance

At this stage, only Strikers seem capable of winning all their remaining four games. For Bullets and Wanderers, nothing is guaranteed due to their inconsistent forms.

Bullets next take on Ekhaya this weekend while Wanderers welcome Karonga United on Thursday. The league is expected to wind up in December with the ultimate winner guaranteed a dance with Africa’s finest in the 2026 CAF Champions League.

Three bottom-placed teams get relegated to three regional leagues while regional champions get promoted to the Super League.
