Lesotho coach Notsi fired after AFCON, World Cup flop

Veteran Leslie Notsi has been sacked as Lesotho coach after failing to meet 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification targets.

In an exclusive interview with Pan-Africa Football, Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Secretary General Mokhosi Mohapi confirmed the development.

“Yes, we have. The mandate was to qualify to the World Cup and AFCON. Neither happened,” he said.

The LeFA GS added that they will advertise the post to identify a replacement for Notsi.

“Where to now? We are going to advertise and go through the recruitment process,” Mohapi added.

Who else has been fired?

Notsi has lost his job alongside assistant coaches Bafokeng Mohapi, Abraham Mongoya, and goalkeeper trainer Samuel Ketsekile.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that junior national football team coaches for the under-17 and under-20 have also been relieved of their duties as part of wholesale changes.

Under Notši, Likuena failed to progress beyond the group stages at the COSAFA Cup in June in South Africa.

Lesotho missed out on AFCON and World Cup qualification tickets.

Despite failing to qualify for the World Cup, Lesotho competed strongly and even beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in a final qualifying game.
