Victor Osimhen named 2025 Sportsman of the Year in Turkey

Victor Osimhen, the striker for the Nigerian senior men’s national team and Galatasaray, was named Sportsman of the Year on Wednesday at the 2025 GQ Türkiye Men of the Year Awards.

Osimhen, who was on loan to Galatasaray during the 2024-25 Turkish Süper Lig season, was instrumental in the club’s triumphant domestic double success. The 26-year-old registered 37 goals and seven assists across all competitions for Okan Buruk’s side.

Speaking after receiving the award, the Nigerian international expressed gratitude to the organizers, the club, and the supporters.

“I want to say a big thank you to GQ. Can’t forget my Galatasaray family. This means so much to me and my family. I appreciate everyone who has supported me up to this hour,” he said. “I will continue to do my best for my family, for Galatasaray, for the fans all over the world.”

He already has 11 goals in 14 outings across all competitions for the Yellow and Reds in the current campaign. Osimhen is the first Nigerian to receive this award.
