KCCA FC pushes Anukani to Junior ranks as licensing standoff enters final stretch

KCCA FC has temporarily shifted midfielder Bright Anukani to their junior side as the club intensifies efforts to clear his lingering licensing complications before the second round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League kicks off.

The midfielder, who made his return to Lugogo in 2024 after running down his contract at Vipers SC, has yet to secure a league license this season, an issue that has left him training and featuring with the reserve team for several months.

Interestingly, close sources reveal that KCCA had, before the season began, weighed the possibility of terminating Anukani’s contract altogether. However, the move stalled, largely due to the hefty compensation attached to such a decision.

Anukani is still tied to KCCA FC until 2027

Despite his struggle for competitive minutes, Anukani has continued to make an impression. On Tuesday, December 9, he found the back of the net in a highly competitive friendly where the junior side held the senior team to a 2–2 draw at Lugogo.

His overall form has remained a topic of debate since last season, where he managed four goals and three assists across 22 league games, fueling mixed reactions amongst the football fraternity.

It is understood that both the club and the player have now agreed on a working timeline aimed at securing his full registration for the Uganda Premier League once the January window opens.

Anukani, who is tied to KCCA FC until 2027, also finds himself attracting interest from elsewhere. Entebbe UPPC FC and URA FC are reportedly keeping a close watch on developments as the situation continues to evolve.
