DR Congo head coach Sébastien Desabre outlined his charges’ first objective for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The in-form DR Congo side has surprised many by reaching the final playoff stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying inter-continental playoffs, and they are one of the teams tipped to do well at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

As per FootRDC, the French coach stated that DR Congo’s first mission is to progress from Group D. “The main objective at the AFCON is first and foremost to get through the group stage. Nothing is easy in Africa. We will face Senegal and Benin, two very good teams that deserve their qualification,” said Desabre.
The Leopards are doing well currently, and they will be hoping for a better outing when the AFCON kicks off. “Then there will be other objectives, and above all, things to improve. Today, we know we have qualities, since we beat Cameroon and Nigeria. This shows that we are progressing. Many players are barely twenty years old; the future can be positive. But we must keep a cool head and understand that after one match, there is always another to play.”
DR Congo will begin their AFCON mission against Benin on the 23rd of December.
