Nigerian stars Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze delivered standout performances as Fulham claimed a 3–2 away victory over Burnley in Round 16 of the Premier League.
Bassey played a decisive role when he scored Fulham’s second goal in the 31st minute, heading home and restoring his side’s lead at 2–1.
Chukwueze then took center stage in the second half, providing the assist for Fulham’s third goal in the 58th minute. The winger threaded a pass to Harry Wilson, who finished to extend Fulham’s advantage to 3-1.
Fulham opened the scoring early through Emile Smith Rowe in the 9th minute, while Burnley responded via Ugochukwu in the 21st minute. Despite a late push that saw Sonne pull one back for Burnley in the 86th minute, Fulham held on to secure all three points.
Following their impressive club performances, Bassey and Chukwueze are set to join the Nigeria national team camp ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on December 21. The Super Eagles will face Egypt in a friendly match in Cairo on December 16 as part of their preparations.
Nigeria have been drawn into Group C of the tournament, alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
