Kenya international Jonah Ayunga scored a brace to help St Mirren silence Celtic and lift the Scottish League Cup on Sunday.
During the final at Hampden Park, St Mirren led by Ayunga, heaped more misery on Celtic with a commanding 3-1 victory. Ayunga scored twice while former Hoops player Marcus Fraser was also on target, as they inflicted a third successive defeat on Wilfried Nancy.

Fraser rose above the Celtic defence to head home the opener, before Reo Hatate equalised for the Hoops. However, Ayunga restored St Mirren’s lead in the 64th, before the Harambee Star wrapped up the emphatic win 12 minutes from time.
“Amazing. We met the fans at the calendar signing this week and this was all they spoke about. To get the chance to play in this, let alone win it and score, I couldn’t imagine it any better. Not a bad day’s work, eh?,” Ayunga told BBC Scotland.
🤩 “I knew that everyone was going to die to protect that lead!”

“This is once in a lifetime. I’ve been playing since I was 17, I’m nearly 30, this was the first time I had a chance to win anything. The manager deserves it. You see what he’s done year upon year at St Mirren. This is the icing on the cake.”
During the Scottish Cup campaign, Ayunga scored two goals.
