Angola-born Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has pledged to build a football academy in the African nation.
Several news outlets confirm that the French international arrived in Luanda on Monday alongside his father Celestino Camavinga and mother Sofia Simão on a holiday.
During his stay, the Real Madrid star visited the headquarters of Angola’s Ministry of Youth and Sports with his parents. He is taking advantage of the visit to evaluate the prospects of his academy project which seeks to develop talent in the country. The La Liga star also featured in an exhibition match with children, according to news outlets such as OPais.
Camavinga was born in Cabinda town of Angola, and he could not hide his joy to return his homeland.
“I was born here. It’s always a pleasure to be with everyone and with the Angolan people,” he is quoted as saying.
The 23-year-old Real Madrid star and his parents relocated from Angola and settled in France, a country he represents in international competitions. Apart from winning the UEFA Champions League, Camavinga has also been successful with France having reached the FIFA World Cup final in 2022 when they lost on post-match penalties to Argentina.
The towering midfielder has made 23 appearances for the La Liga side in this season while scoring twice and registering one assist.
