Veteran striker Knowledge Musona and defender Divine Lunga have returned to full training for Zimbabwe just in time for Friday’s game against Angola at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.
The former Kaizer Chiefs forward and the current Mamelodi Sundowns wing-back were unable to feature for Zimbabwe when they lost 2-1 to Egypt in a Group B opener on Monday due to knocks picked in training in Marrakech.
The Zimbabwe Football Association has since issued an update, via the social media pages, that the former Kaizzer Chiefs man Musona and Sundowns wingback Lunga have returned to full training. The duo’s availability is a boost for coach Marian ‘Mario’ Marinica ahead of the must-win AFCON clash against the Angolans.
“All players were in attendance, with the sole exception of Munashe Garananga, who was unable to take part after sustaining a dead leg. His condition continues to be monitored by the medical team,” the statement reads.
“Encouragingly, Knowledge Musona, Sean Fusire, and Divine Lunga, who were unavailable for selection in the match against Egypt due to injury, successfully completed the entire training session alongside the rest of the squad.
“Their full participation is a significant boost to the technical team, with all three players showing sharpness, confidence, and a clear readiness to return to competitive action.”
Sean Fusire, who was also unavailable due to a knock, has returned to full training. However, Marinica is monitoring defender Munashe Garananga who is also struggling with a leg discomfort.
Both Zimbabwe and Angola are seeking to bounce back from losing opening matches. Patrice Beaumelle’s team lost 2-1 to South Africa.
