Newly appointed head coach of Bibiani Gold Stars FC Fritz Markus Schmid is looking forward to his first competitive challenge when they host Dreams FC in week 16 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday at the Duns Park.
The reigning Ghana champions roped in the service of the Swiss coach to fill the void created by the departure of Stephen Frimpong Manso who joined Nations FC.
The Miners have had mixed results in their last four games, picking two victories and two losses on the road. Ahead of their clash at home to Dreams fc, coach Markus Schmid expressed joy over the new challenge.
Markus Schmid gets first ever Ghana Premier League experience
“I am very excited to be here [and] if you ask me what attracts me, I have been to Ghana football before [but] unfortunately when we made promotion with Kotoku Royals to the Premier League, I didn’t have the opportunity to coach them in the Premier League so this is the first opportunity that Bibiani GoldStars gives me to coach in the Premier League,” Fritz Markus Schmid told GoldStars TV.
“And of course to take over the defending champions is not only a big honour to step in but also a very exciting challenge and responsibility because they are the defending champions and that already gives you a big task ahead so I am excited to address this and I am looking forward to working with the team.”
GoldStars lost to Nations FC and Samartex with victories against new boys Hohoe United and Aduana in their last four matches. They occupy the 5th spot on 25 points same as Hearts of Oak after 15 games into the first half of the season.
