Zimbabwe’s ailing giant FC Dynamos has sacked its entire Executive Committee following the team’s narrow escape from the just-ended Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).
In a statement, Dynamos Board Chairperson Bernard Lusengo justified the decision, saying it was necessitated by the team’s abject performance in the just-ended season in which they escaped relegation by a whisker.
“It is with a heavy heart that I, Bernard Marriot Lusengo, Board Chairman of Dynamos FC have taken the decision to dissolve the entire executive leadership of the club effective immediately. The current executive’s inability to secure new sponsors for the team has necessitated this change,” the statement reads.
“Furthermore, our narrow escape from relegation in the previous season demands a fresh approach to leadership. This change is aimed at bringing sanity, stability and a winning mentality to the club. We will work tirelessly to ensure Dynamos FC returns to its former glory.”
Dynamos is Zimbabwe’s biggest club in terms of trophies won, including unparalleled 22 league times and fan-base. However, of late DeMbare have fallen on hard times.
This has in turn, cost the positions of the Executive Committee which chairperson Moses Maunganidze led. He has been shown the exit door alongside vice-chairman Clemence Chimbari, treasurer Justice Mubayi, Webster Marechera (secretary-general) and David Chikomo (member responsible for marketing and media).
After flirting with relegation for weeks, Dynamos finished fourth from the bottom of the 18-member PSL log table with 32 points from 29 games, 31 points behind champions Scottland FC.
