Lugazi FC have moved swiftly to steady their Uganda Premier League campaign by appointing Simon Peter Mugerwa as their new head coach on a one-year contract.
The CAF A–licensed tactician steps in following the departure of Steven Bogere and Francis Mugerwa, who were relieved of their duties earlier this week after a difficult run of results that left the club hovering in the lower reaches of the table.
Mugerwa arrives with vast top-flight experience, having briefly managed Mbarara City at the start of the current season. Despite that stint being short-lived, his coaching résumé remains impressive, with previous roles at Fire Masters, SC Villa, Soltilo Bright Stars, Police FC and strong involvement in both the Masaza Cup and National Schools Championships.
He will be assisted by Ssekweyama, another seasoned coach who has served at several Uganda Premier League sides including SC Villa, Express FC, Maroons FC, Wakiso Giants and Mbarara City. Lugazi have indicated that a full technical bench will be unveiled in due course.
The immediate challenge for Mugerwa is a demanding one. Lugazi currently sit 14th on the UPL standings with 10 points from 11 matches, and the new coach is tasked with restoring belief and momentum as the season gathers pace.
His first major test comes on 7th January 2026, when Lugazi travel to Lugogo to face NEC FC in their next league fixture—an early opportunity to signal a change in fortunes under new leadership.
