AFCON 2025: Uganda coach Paul Put promises fight against Nigeria

Uganda head coach Paul Put has issued a rallying cry to his squad, urging the Cranes to fight until the final whistle in their decisive AFCON 2025 Group C encounter against Nigeria this Tuesday.

While the Super Eagles have already secured passage to the knockout stages, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Uganda.

After picking up just one point from their opening two fixtures—a 3-1 loss to Tunisia followed by a 1-1 draw with Tanzania—the Cranes find themselves in a “must-win” territory to keep their Round of 16 hopes alive.

AFCON: Paul Put Promises Uganda Will Push Nigeria to the Limit

“I told the players we must keep believing and fight until the last second,” the Belgian tactician told the media.

“While we are disappointed with our previous results, we have to reset and prepare for Nigeria. We know it won’t be easy against a side of their quality, but we are not here to give up.”

Nigeria, led by Eric Chelle, enters the final matchday with a perfect record after edge-of-the-seat victories over Tanzania (2-1) and Tunisia (3-2).

While a draw would be enough for the Super Eagles to clinch top spot in the group, Put’s men have no such luxury; only three points will suffice to give them a chance at progressing as either runners-up or one of the best third-placed teams.
