Pape Thiaw rules out any complacency from Senegal against Sudan

Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has stressed that his team will approach their upcoming match against Sudan with full seriousness and respect, as the two sides meet in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM GMT on Saturday, at the Tangier Stadium in Morocco.

Senegal advanced to the Round of 16 after finishing top of their group with seven points, while Sudan qualified as one of the best third-placed teams, ending the group stage with three points in Group E.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Thiaw said:
“We will play the Sudan match with full seriousness and respect.”

He also addressed Koulibaly’s situation, confirming:
“Kalidou Koulibaly will be suspended for only one match. We hope to qualify tomorrow so that we can have him back in the next round.”

Thiaw provided updates on player fitness, explaining:
“Iliman Ndiaye and Lamine Camara picked up minor injuries. Yesterday, Lamine Camara took part in light training, while Iliman was receiving treatment. Both players will return to training today.”

The Senegal coach concluded by clarifying a selection decision, stating:
“As for Moussa Niakhaté being in the stands, that was my personal decision.”
