Medeama SC stretched their lead on top of the table with a 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak in week 17 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
Both clubs marched into the dressing room after a fiercely contested first half at the Tarkwa TnA Park.
The second half was a moment for Hearts of Oak to find the opener but it was Medeama who shot themselves ahead in the 74th minute when Salim Adams pounced on Richard Appiah’s cut back to fire from close range.
It was a momentous moment for Salim Adams who scored against his former club in the final day of the first half of the season.
The win kept Medeam at the top spot on 34 points, extending their lead ahead of GoldStars and Asante Kotoko.
Reigning champions GoldStars closed in on Medeama after squeezing a 3-2 win over struggling Eleven Wonders at the Legon Sports Stadium on Sunday. The Miners now have 32 points, two behind Medeama after match day 17.
Asante Kotoko’s quest to keep the chase on Medeama was given a jolt following their 2-1 loss at All Blacks on Sunday and they trail Medeama by four points two behind GoldStars.
Hearts of Oak remain in 5th on 28 points, one adrift of 4th placed and two time champions Aduana FC.
Newly promoted side Hohoe United, who sacked their head coach Tijani Bashiru have dropped into the relegation zone alongside Berekum Chelsea and Eleven Wonders.
