AFCON: Zimbabwe’s Nakamba flaunts posh cars, says not from handouts

Amid calls for a probe into the circumstances surrounding Zimbabwe’s premature exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, captain Marvelous Nakamba has taken to the social media to explain how he acquires his wealth.

News outlets including SoccerBeat have reported that a petition has been launched in Zimbabwe calling on FIFA and CAF to investigate the Warriors’ 3-2 loss to South Africa in a Group B game at the AFCON finals.

SoccerBeat has quoted a petition from a Zimbabwe group called ZimEye, which claims there is “reasonable suspicion that the integrity of the match may have been compromised”, citing “the manner in which key goals were conceded.”

The Warriors crashed out of the tournament after defensive errors, especially by defender Divine Lunga’s own goal and Nakamba’s handball that resulted in a late penalty. South Africa converted the penalty kick through midfielder Appolis to seal the late victory.

Now after the night marish AFCON campaign, Nakamba has explained how he acquired his wealth in what seems as a direct response to the wild accusations.

How Marvelous Nakamba has reacted

In his latest Facebook post, Nakamba, who admitted that he is still haunted by the Warriors’ AFCON premature exit, has flaunted his wealth back in the United Kingdom.

The 31-year-old has posted on Facebook with his fleet of the state-of-the art posh cars. It seems that is the way, the former Premier League star has decided to respond to his growing army of critics.

“I achieved all of this with no handout. Just only hard work and dedication,” he wrote.

Nakamba’s car collection primarily features vehicles from Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz (Brabus), BMW, and Ferrari. The Birmingham-based players also owns G Class Brabus and a BMW X5.

On December 30, Nakamba took to his Facebook account to acknowledge his mistake that cost Zimbabwe a potential place in the AFCON Round-of-16.

He wrote: “We learn from our mistakes, and football is a different game, some many negative comments and that won’t make me give up. I am a fighter,” he wrote.

Zimbabwe needed a win at all costs to salvage something from their bid for a place in the round of 16 of the continental competition.

However, despite fighting back through goals from Motherwell FC striker Tawanda Maswanishe and Mamelodi Sundowns’ defender Aubrey Modiba’s own goal, Hugo Broos’ men prevailed courtesy of Appollis’s last-gasp penalty after earlier goals from Lyle Foster and Divine Lunga’s own goal.
