Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has signed for English Premier League powerhouse Manchester City from Bournemouth in a deal pegged around £65m.
The Cherries pushed hard to keep the attacker but the mouthwatering price tabled by the Citizens prompted the move for the Black Stars player.
City met Semenyo’s release clause whic had to be activated by Friday which is agreed for installments over a two year period plus other bonuses. The 26-year-old has signed a deal until 2031 and expressed joy at joining the side.
“I am so proud to have joined Manchester City,” Semenyo said as quoted by Man City website. “They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep [Guardiola].
“I have so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me. It’s a real privilege to be here. My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that.”
The London-born forward was on the score sheet for the last time for Bournemouth, scoring a late winner in Wednesday’s 3-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
Semenyo has scored 10 goals from 20 games sitting behind new teammate, Erling Haaland (20) and Brentford’s Igor Thiago (16).
Bournemouth signed Semenyo from Bristol City for about £10m in January 2023 and he leaves the Cherries after with 32 goals and 13 assists from 110 appearances in all competitions.
Semenyo started his career in the Championship with Bristol City with loan spells at Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland before signing for Bournemouth in 2023 in a four-and-a-half-year deal, Semenyo played a key role in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification where the four time African champions booked a fifth appearance.
They are paired in Group L along Panama, England and Croatia for the mundial to be co-hosted in Canada, USA and Mexico.
