The Egypt national team are preparing for an unprecedented challenge that could work in Senegal’s favor at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, currently taking place in Morocco, as the two sides meet in the semi-finals.

Egypt booked their place in the last four after edging past Ivory Coast with a thrilling 3-2 victory in the quarter-finals, while Senegal secured qualification with a narrow 1-0 win over Mali.

For the first time since the start of their AFCON 2025 campaign, Egypt will leave the city of Agadir. The Pharaohs are set to travel to Tangier to face Senegal in the semi-final clash, marking their first match away from the Adrar Stadium in the tournament.

Egypt have played five matches so far in AFCON 2025, all at Adrar Stadium. During that run, they recorded victories over Zimbabwe (2-1), South Africa (1-0), Benin (3-1), and Ivory Coast (3-2), in addition to a goalless draw against Angola.

The semi-final between Egypt and Senegal will be played at 5:00 PM GMT on Wednesday, at the Grand Stade de Tanger.

Advantage for Senegal against Egypt

In contrast, the Tangier venue has been home ground for Senegal throughout the tournament. The Lions of Teranga have played all five of their AFCON 2025 matches at the Grand Stade de Tanger, winning four and drawing one, giving them a familiarity advantage heading into the semi-final.

Egypt will play only one match at the Grand Stade de Tanger during the tournament. Depending on the outcome, either Egypt or Senegal will move to Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat for the final, or to Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca for the third-place playoff.
