As Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, and Senegal prepare for the semi-final stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, disciplinary concerns have emerged as a key factor ahead of Wednesday’s semifinal decisive clashes.
The four teams booked their places in the AFCON last four after strong quarter-final performances, setting up two heavyweight semi-final encounters. Egypt are set to face Senegal at 5:00 PM GMT, while hosts Morocco will take on Nigeria later the same night at 8:00 PM GMT.
However, attention has shifted to the list of players at risk of suspension due to accumulated yellow cards. Nigeria are the most affected side, with seven players walking a disciplinary tightrope. Egypt follow with six players at risk of missing a potential final, while Morocco and Senegal each have three players facing the same situation.
For Egypt, the players under threat of suspension include: Rami Rabia, Mohamed El Shenawy, Marwan Attia, Ahmed Fattouh, Hossam Abdelmaguid, and Hamdy Fathy.
Morocco’s list features Ismael Saibari, Bilal El Khannouss, and Sofiane Rahimi.
Nigeria could be forced into changes if Stanley Nwabali, Moses Simon, or Wilfred Ndidi receive another yellow card.
Senegal also have several players at risk, including Nicolas Jackson, Kalidou Koulibaly, Ibrahim Mbaye, Ismail Jakobs, Pape Gueye, Habib Diallo, and Habib Diarra.
With places in the AFCON 2025 final at stake, maintaining discipline in the semifinal games will be just as crucial as tactical execution for the four semi-finalists.
