In a major statement of intent, Mpumalanga-based third-tier league side Phezulu FC have completed the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs playmaker Mduduzi Mdantsane.

The 31-year-old creative midfielder arrives at the ABC Motsepe League leaders as a free agent, ending a six-month hiatus following his departure from Naturena in July 2025. While his stint with Kaizer Chiefs didn’t hit the heights many expected—culminating in an early contract termination—Mdantsane now looks to rediscover the spark that once made him a standout for PSL sides Cape Town City FC and Baroka FC.

Phezulu FC are clearly not interested in just competing; they are building a “dream team” to navigate the treacherous path to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. By landing Mdantsane, the club adds a wealth of top-flight experience to a dressing room that already boasts PSL veterans like Jabulani Shongwe, Paseka Sekese, and Lehlohonolo Nonyane.

Currently sitting three points clear at the summit of Stream A with 25 points from nine matches, Phezulu are the team to beat. The addition of “Mdu” is seen as the final piece of the puzzle for the upcoming National Playoffs.

“A Lifeline to Revive My Career”: Says Former Kaizer Chiefs Star

Speaking to Emba Community Newspaper, a rejuvenated Mdantsane expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to return to the pitch.

“The club has shown incredible form this season, and I’m here to contribute and help the team achieve its goals,” Mdantsane said. “It’s an opportunity to give back to the game and inspire the younger players around me.”

Mdantsane could make his debut as early as this weekend. Phezulu FC are set to host Tiger Boys FC at the Secunda Stadium on Saturday, January 17. With a 15:00 kickoff, all eyes in Mpumalanga will be on whether the former Amakhosi star can pull the strings and maintain Phezulu’s push for promotion.
