Egyptian giants Al Ahly have announced the departure of attacking midfielder Mohamed Magdy Afsha, who has joined Al Ittihad Alexandria on loan until the end of the current season.
The move comes in search of regular playing time, as Afsha struggled for minutes this season with Al Ahly under Danish head coach Jess Thorup. The 29-year-old featured for just 150 minutes across all competitions, making six appearances without scoring or providing an assist.
Despite his limited club involvement, Afsha recently represented Egypt in the Arab Cup, where he scored the equalizer from the penalty spot against Kuwait.
Afsha remains one of the most iconic modern players in Al Ahly’s history. His most memorable moment came in the 2020 CAF Champions League final against Zamalek, when he scored the winning goal in what became famously known as the “Final of the Century.”
Since joining Al Ahly in the 2018–19 season, Afsha has had a trophy-laden spell, winning 20 titles with the club:
Egyptian Premier League: 4 titles
Three Continents Cup: 1 title
Egyptian Super Cup: 6 titles
Egypt Cup: 3 titles
CAF Super Cup: 2 titles
CAF Champions League: 4 titles
Now, Afsha begins a new chapter with Al Ittihad Alexandria to rediscover his rhythm during the remainder of the season.
