AmaZulu FC have completed the signing of Brazilian defender Gustavo Vieira Lopes and South African midfielder Luyolo Slatsha ahead of the Betway Premiership resumption in South Africa.

Arthur Zwane-led club has recruited the 22-year-old Slatsha from Cape Town City, while the 24-year-old Lopes joined from Ferroviário da Beira in neighbouring Mozambique on a free transfer.

Speaking to Usuthu’s media after his unveiling on Thursday, Slatsha described the environment at the Durban-based side as very conducive for his career advancement. “It has been very welcoming,” he said.

“It is a very open space. The coach-player relationship is very open. It is direct. It is accountable. We spoke to all the players. It is demanding the standard that we need to keep competing in the league. It is a [team] very balanced team with a mix of players, so I think we can produce something special.”

Slatsha is the Durban-based team’s second midfield signing this January transfer window after Zimbabwean Mason Mushore.

What does Lopes bring to AmaZulu FC?

On the other hand, Lopes told Mozambique’s Lance website that he was excited to switch from Mocambola to the Betway Premiership.

“It is an important step in my career. I want to thank the people of Beira for everything. This city will always be a home for me; I gained a family here,” the defender said.

Lopes is a highly-rated defender who can also play as a defensive midfielder. He has spent two seasons with the Mozambican side, making 45 appearances.

The duo is expected to kick-start their careers at AmaZulu when they welcome TS Galaxy in a Betway Premiership match on January 25.
