Zambian giants Zesco United have bolstered their squad by signing two players ahead of the clash against Kaizer Chiefs.
The MTN Super League side will host the South African opponents in the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) in Ndola next week on Sunday, January 25 2026.
Ahead of the group-stage meeting with the Betway Premiership opponents, Zesco United have announced the addition to their squad of Gabonese midfielder Derrick Maureen Assoumou Obame and Zambian forward Emmanuel Manda.
The 19-year-old Obame has signed for the powermen from Football Canon 105 in Gabon, according to a statement from the Zambian team.
His technical quality, vision, composure in tight spaces and attacking intelligence are expected to elevate Zesco’s offensive play and provide quality service to the forwards, according to the statement.
On the other hand, Manda has joined from fellow MTN Super League side FC MUZA on a two-year contract, “bringing aggression, pace and attacking hunger to the frontline.”
Zesco United FC CEO Kelvin Mutafu said the signing of the duo was part of the club’s long-term strategy to remain competitive locally and internationally.
“These two signings reflect our ambition and long-term vision as a club. Derrick brings creativity and intelligence to our midfield, while Emmanuel adds energy, aggression and poses as an attacking threat,” he said.
“Together, they create squad depth and competitiveness as we pursue success both locally and continentally. We are confident they will make a positive impact and excite our fans.”
Zesco United will host Chiefs in the Group D game at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. Kick-off is 3:00pm.
The ABSA Cup champions anchor the Confederation Cup group without a point after losing 1-0 to leaders Zamalek and 3-2 to Al Marsy, both from Egypt.
The Zambians’ most immediate fixture before facing Chiefs is against Kabwe Warriors away at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.
